Fairfield Teens Looking for Jobs and Internships

Alice Gorman of the Fairfield Ludlowe High School College & Career Center has students looking for part-time work, internships and other workplace exposure:

We are trying to increase career/employment exposure and experiences for our students. We would love to share our wonderful students with our community — and to give the community a chance to meet, teach and expose our kids to the skills and experiences needed to succeed in today's world.
We have students looking for part time jobs (all types — babysitting, yard work, office work, sales clerks, etc.) after school and on weekends. Please send me a description of your position, hours needed, and hourly pay rate. My contact info is below.
We are also developing two career programs at FLHS:
  • An internship program for seniors during the last month of the school year. Students go out into the workplace for 25–30 hours per week instead of attending their last four weeks of classes and exams. Two years ago 34 students launched our pilot program, and last year that number increased to 124. Since we expect that number to go up significantly again this year, we are actively seeking local internship placements for our students.

  • Starting in February 2009, we will be piloting a "Shadow Day" for juniors. We hope to send about 15–20 juniors out into the community on Feb. 2 to "shadow" professional people at their jobs. We expect this program will also grow and are looking for shadow assignments for our students as well.

If you or someone you know is willing to sponsor an intern or "shadow," contact me and I will be happy to send you information about our programs.
